Are there no Indian writers who can make to this list?

Oh, There are plenty of exciting new writers working now, including of Indian origin. Probably a reflection of state of affairs based on the vintage of the books on my list -- the latest one on my list was published, nearly 40 years back, in 1984! Recently, I see many international authors writing fantasy. Machinehood, a hard SF book by an Indian author SB Divya, (https://sbdivya.com/) was a good pandemic read.

Like the Booker prizes, the list will look very different in 10 years.

Love this list, great to see some of my own favorites. Gully Foyle is probably one of my all time favorite fictional characters, even outside of SF. Also, looks like I might need to update my own ranking of some of the others I haven't got to like The Day of the Triffids and Gateway (don't know when I will get to them though). Some recent ones I read which you might like: Children of Time-Adrian Tchaikovsky, Project Hail Mary (the fiction is OK, the science is great like Andy Weir's other novel The Martian) and Psalm for the Wild Built- Becky Chambers.

Thanks! Agree about Gully Foyle. My unpopular opinion is that aging Tom Cruise would bring the monomaniacal focus of the character well to screen. I have liked Adrian Tchaikovsky so far (Children of Time). Becky Chambers and Weir are intriguing. Their books (including the Martian) are in my very long TBR list.
